I am going to bed and there are dishes in the sink, that is never a sentence I thought I would say. Everyone told me when you become a mother your priorities change, houses become messy, laundry get piled up and you WILL go to bed when there are still dishes in the sink. I laughed everyone off and thought no way, that is so not me, I always get the laundry done, the house picked up and most of all I never went to bed if there was dishes in the sink.
Even days after bringing my newborn home and having had major surgery from delivering him c-section I was up doing laundry and cleaning the room. I got in trouble by my doctor and scolded by those around me for trying to clean when I was supposed to be in bed or spending time with my baby, but I kept telling everyone you don’t understand I HAVE to clean the house!! How do you know when your baby is sick and when they are just tired and fussy? As a new mom every little noise my son made I was rushing to him and checking every little part of him. When he sneezed I raced to the internet to see if that meant anything. When he was eating too much or too little or slept too long or not enough I was on the phone with the pediatrician.
After a month of doing this I realized that I cannot stop my life to monitor every noise and move that my baby makes. My pediatrician (who is amazing and patience with me!) recommended, “What to Expect the First Year.” This book is amazing, it has all sorts of answers for all the silly questions I have. After working 50 plus hours for the last five years I was suddenly faced with a 7 week vacation, what ever was I going to do during those 7 weeks. As I was finishing my last day at work before my maternity leave started I told my boss that I would be back before the 7 weeks was up. I was thinking there is no way I can not work for 7 weeks, no possible way.
Then the day came where I became a mother to a beautiful baby boy, I could not get enough of him. The thought of work seemed so distance and the thought of returning seemed even farther away. Continue reading
I’ve learned as you go through you often change and as you change so do your goals and dreams. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a CFO. I have spent my time and energy climbing the ladder of leadership so I can someday reach my goal.
The other day I began to think about my life and realized I still want to be a CFO but the ladder I am now going to climb to get there is a different one. For 8 weeks ago I had another dream come true… I became a mother to a beautiful baby boy. Continue reading
Consistency to me is one of the most important traits an individual can have and the most important trait when branding yourself as a leader. In order to keep things flowing and keep morale up I think displaying consistency in your expectations and guidelines is key.
Yes I watched football again today, what can I say I am a diehard football fan! During the season you see 17 weeks of regular season games, and through the season you see how coaches take different approaches to try a create the next Super bowl champions.
Two of my favorite coaches to watch are head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Caldwell and head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick. Both of these coaches produce constant winning teams, teams you know you can count on to bring you a good game, but when you look behind the scenes it’s the way the coaches communicate that I think makes these teams so interesting to watch.
I spent the day watching the NFL wildcard playoffs which was full of unexpected wins. I watched as a team who made it to the playoffs with a losing record beat the reigning Superbowl champions. As the Seahawks quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, said in an interview, it’s not how you get to the playoffs it’s what you do once you’re there. We may have had a losing record going into the playoffs but today was a new day, we started over and now we end the day 1-0.
